Izale McLeod toasted his debut Pompey goal, but felt he should have had more.
The striker took advantage of a terrible gaffe from Bournemouth keeper Shwan Jalal to fire the Blues ahead in their League One opener.
He missed a couple more chances in the second half, however, and the Cherries were able to salvage a draw through Lee Barnard’s header.
But overall McLeod was happy with a solid start to the season at Fratton Park.
He said: “It’s always nice to get a goal in your first game for your new club. There were a few bodies in the way but as soon as I heard the crowd I knew for sure it was in.
“I’m a bit disappointed that I couldn’t get a second or third goal – I probably should have. That would have seen the game off.
“But it’s a start for the lads and we can look to push on from here.
“All the players we have in the building are good – the gaffer wouldn’t have brought us in otherwise.
